What Is It?
The Grand Prix is a race using small race cars made
of wood, built to specific dimensions and raced by gravity down an inclined
track. The Grand Prix is designed to be a learning experience as a
clubber designs, constructs, and details their car with
adult supervision. The Grand Prix is an ideal parent and child project. To
make race day even more exciting it is open not only to clubbers but to adults
and leaders as well. The race day is an opportunity to experience competition,
sportsmanship, and sharing, as well as, become an outreach for your church.
The Grand Prix Open is
designed to be an exciting day for all. It is open to ALL Awana
Clubbers, ages 5-years through 6th grade, and Adults (7th
grade and up). Some competitors come from clubs that dont have a race track of their own.
Others just
want to see how well they run in a larger group of competitors. Either way the
Grand Prix Open is designed to be great fun. There are no requirements that a
car race at a local church before entering the Grand Prix Open. Many churches
bring cars to the Open without having a race at their local church first.
Remember, both your club's Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Open aren't just a race.
They are a special opportunity. Family and friends who help clubbers
build cars want to watch those cars race. Many attend who might not
ever hear the Gospel. Some adults hear the gospel for the
first time when they attend a Grand Prix or Grand Prix Open. These special
events may also be a means of drawing boys and girls back to club or may help to
combat a drop in attendance.
With all these things in mind, we have established
classifications, specifications, & policies to be used at the Grand Prix
Open.
