How to Help Schlossers

Testimony of Al and Mildred Schlosser

I was born in the mountains of Western Maryland. Growing up in a Christian home, I was exposed to the gospel at church and at home.  At the age of six or seven, I received Jesus as my Savior in my home.  My Mother would welcome Child Evangelism Fellowship teachers to use our home for Good News Clubs®.  It was at one of those meetings that I put my trust in Jesus’ work on the cross of Calvary.  We were regular in church and Sunday School attendance. At a Missions Conference, I recognized God’s desire for me to be a Missionary. I was interested in shortwave radio, as I saw it as a means of getting the gospel into the whole world. Not being an up front person, I only saw myself as the engineer, behind the scenes.

After high school, I served in the Army.  My training there and later in college lead me toward that pursuit of mission’s radio. But God was still developing in me the direction He would have me go. Ministering in the Awana Clubs and serving in my local church was the direction God had for me then.

Meanwhile in the rural Virginia, Mildred grew up in a family of seven girls. A school teacher invited them to go to Sunday School with her. At age ten, she went forward to receive the Lord Jesus Christ. But the Scriptures were not opened and for many years she doubted her salvation. Many years later, she received full assurance of her salvation. A crisis in her life had brought her to a church where the gospel was clearly taught. The teaching she received in the year or so she was there, brought her to rest securely in Christ. She attended a youth club that taught a lot about missions. At a Missions Conference, she went forward and committed herself to go where the Lord wanted her to go.

We met while serving at Adelphi Bible Church. Through the years we watched God draw us together and open doors of ministry for us. After we were married, we continued to seek what God would have us do. While our ministry at church continued, we were involved with local Awana events. God also enabled us to explore His plan, allowing us to make visits to Morocco, Philippines and Venezuela on short term missionary trips. While teaching the AKX (now Journey) Bible Study on “How to Find God’s Will for Your Life”, for our teens, God opened the door for us to become Awana Missionaries. God’s leading and teaching us, has equipped us to fulfill His plan for our lives.

Romans 12:1, 2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
